Marion Sun Realigns from Publishing to Thriving Community Events

March 06, 2024 – In October 2023, the Marion Sun embarked on an experiment in local journalism. In the past 5 months, we’ve published more than 500 stories on Marion’s life and people, reaching 8,000 readers monthly. We are deeply appreciative of the tremendous support from the local community.

However, sustainable revenue streams through advertising and sponsorship, which are crucial for an online publication, have regrettably not materialized as anticipated.

On a brighter note, The Marion Winter Markets, launched earlier this year, have been a resounding success. These public markets have exceeded expectations, regularly drawing large crowds and vendors experiencing new sales records.

Therefore, we are realigning our focus towards community gatherings. Our Easter Market takes place March 16 and our Mother’s Day Market is April 27. Both include a curated selection of specialty foods, handcrafted and homemade goods and small business wares. We are also exploring the creation of additional regional events.

As we shift our focus, the Marion Sun website will continue to be available, providing access to our published articles until the end of March.

For those keen to stay connected on our future endeavors, we invite you to follow our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/themarionsun . That page will continue to serve as a vibrant hub for community engagement, updates on upcoming events, and new initiatives.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your support and for being an integral part of The Marion Sun’s journey.

Stay Well
